The Polish Robert Schuman Foundation organised the 4th Meeting of the European School Clubs "Immigrants Inc.", which took place in Kościelisko by Zakopane on 19-23rd November 2008. Despite weather surprises and other unpredicted events, the Meeting was an undeniable success. The participants came from 26 schools and non-governmental organisations from 13 European Union countries: Austria, Belgium, The Czech Republic, France, Spain, Latvia, Germany, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Hungary and Italy.
The participants took part in intercultural workshops and in a simulation game „Przejścia" („Crossings") which vividly shows a difficult plight of refugees. Instead of a planned presentation about the common European immigration and asylum policy, the participants watched a presentation which was prepared by the volunteers from The European Voluntary Service and the Polish students during the first part of the project. The volunteers will now introduce in Polish schools the game „Przejścia" and conduct the presentation on both the terminology and the situation of asylum seekers in Poland.
The objectives of the Meeting were undoubtedly fulfilled. Exactly as it should be, the network of active schools within the scope of European integration was expanded. A lot of time was devoted to getting to know each of the participating organisations, sharing knowledge and experience regarding immigrants' situation in their countries or local communities. In addition, new possibilities for the future cooperation between the schools participating in the Meeting were opened.
There is no doubt that euroclubnetwork.eu, which is a web portal built with the help of the Polish Robert Schuman Foundation, will be of great use. The portal targets School Clubs and schools. The website came into existence in February 2008 as a result of the Foundation's project Bring Europe Closer to Youth being awarded with the Gold Star. Within the framework of "Immigrants Inc.", the website is going to be rebuilt next year in order to enable and facilitate the cooperation between the European School Clubs and schools.
The project is co-financed by the European Union within the framework of the programme „Europe for Citizens" 2007-2013.
